Influences - Anna Gerber and Anja Lutz

Published in 2006 by Die Gestalten Verlag, 'Influences' is subtitled 'A Lexicon of Contemporary Graphic Design'. Meticulously conceived, researched and designed by Anna Gerber and Anja Lutz [Shift!] it gathers a cross section of influences to create a compelling lexicon for contemporary graphic design.

Who or what drives you? An artist? A memory? A person from your present or past? A photograph? A place? A colour? A piece of music? A film? What were the catalysts for a certain project you worked on? Can you track a finished project back to its inspirations and influences? What or who is behind your ambitions, your goals, your dreams?

Anna Gerber and Anja Lutz

Featuring cross-referenced contributions by a cross-section of contemporary designers including, among others: 8V0, Alorenz, Ed Fella, April Greiman, Ellen Lupton, Adrian Shaughnessy and Erik Spiekermann, 'Influences' uncovers the undercurrents that underpin current design practice.

When we saw the first proofs - in particular those we shared a double page spread with - we felt honoured. Braun; C++; John Cage; Dictionaries; Charles and Ray Eames; Ed Fella; Ghandi; Hokusai; Ralf Hütter und Florian Schneider [Kraftwerk]... A who's who of our heroes. 'Influences' has grown since the early proofs to become an indispensible guide and inspirational wayfinder for the self-respecting creative.
